On the authority of Ummu Salamah Radhyya Allahu Unha that the Prophet ﷺ said: If the month of Dhul-Hijjah enters and one of you wishes to slaughter udhiyyah then let him not cut his hair (head, pubic & armpit or any other hair) nor his nails” in other narration” nor of his skin”
Benefits of this hadeeth:
1- Udhiyyah is sunnah as in the saying of the Prophet ﷺ ” and one of you wishes to slaugher udhiyyah”.
2- The forbidding from cutting hair & nails relates to the one who wants to give the udhiyyah whether alone or sharing a cow or camel with other 6 people but it doesn’t relate to those whom he/she include reward with him/her.
3- The command not to cut hair & nails is for forbidding not for dislikeness as there is no evidence to support.
4- If he/she cuts hair or nails intentionally then they have to repent but nothing to do more than that.
5- Prohibition of cutting hair and nail extends up to slaughtering the udhiyyah or sunset of the thirteenth of Dhul-Hijjah.
6- Whoever slaughters his/her udhuyyah before the Eid prayer then he cannot cut hair nor nails untill he slaughters another one after the Eid prayer.
Thursday 29 Dul-Qiddah 1437H (1st of September 2014) might be the last chance for those who want to give a sacrifice to cut hair and nails before sunset, as the Prophet ﷺ said in sahih Muslim: “If you see the born crescent of Dhul-Hijjah and one of you wishes to give Udhiyyah then leave off cutting hair & nails”
